Graphic Novels

Biographies

Biographies are stories that tell the stories of peoples lives, these can be autobiographical or about other people, and can range from being as close to the truth as possible to taking creative liberties in the storytelling. These stories are meant to help peak into people’s lives, and can be made sometimes with a specific point (education, advice, etc.), but not always.

Biographies in graphic novels

Biographical graphic novels are interesting, they’re usually pretty straight forward, as they are meant to represent realisty, but that isn’t all there is to them. With personal biographies you’ll often see artists let their own style come through and even use the medium to up the impact moments they experienced, communicate emotions, and play with the storytelling.

Key Features:

  • Visuals: The visuals of these stories can help add a personal twist to the story, wether it’s simply showing off their style or using the medium to its full potential. Some stories even get somewhat abstract or very creative with the way they go about things.
  • Personal perspective: The personal prespective aspect can come through in any form as anyone telling a story (even one not about themselves) will have a persective on it and it will inform the way they tell the story.
  • Education/Advice: There is often a reason people want to tell these stories, for many it’s a way to share information such as historical stories that they think more people should know or things they’ve learned from experiencing their lives.
